At the foot of the Sulfuric Mountains lies a wide, winding river known as the Serpent's Path. More than thirty feet wide, it is slow moving and still as glass. Fog, thin as a veil, carries a warm, mineral stench from surface to stained yellow shoreline. It is, as the mountains, acidic. To swim in its water is to die. 

 

But the water alone is not its sole danger, for below the surface lies the river's namesake: a serpent, massive and temperamental and as remarkably colorful as its home. Its sleek scales are thicker than hide and stronger than steel. From snout to tail, they cover its body in uneven patterns of black and gold, pink and green, red and blue. 

 

To fight this serpent is to fight death itself, and yet it is for this that the adventurers come. To take but one of this serpent's scales is to share its greatest strength: come fire, come acid or lava, none shall harm he who bears the scale.
